The day heaven cried

Like many people, I was at work that day. Someone came into my office and said a plane had crashed into one of the Towers. We walked down to another office where there was a TV playing. We saw the 2nd plane crash, though we initially thought it was a replay of the first plane. Then came shock, disbelief, more shock....and the day that couldn't have gotten worse did when the towers fell. I will never forget that day.

I can't remember the exact hour that it happened but I know exactly where I was and what I was doing.I was baby sitting my next door neighbors baby.. I had put him on a blanket on the living room floor while I was making a batch of home made baby wipes in the kitchen when I heard the TV announce that the program had been interrupted for breaking news.I then heard the announcer say the twin towers had been hit..I ran into the living to watch..What a shock and sad day that was.. A day that changed America forever.

I had recently lost a very good paying job at the Postal Service, and so I got two years of free college so I could go into another area........I decided to attend a two-year community college......that morning, I was getting ready for my college classes, when I decided to turn on the t.v. to catch the temp for the day.....I turned the t.v. on.....thought they were talking about a movie....but NO, it was real.......the horrendous nightmare on September 11th of 2001.....I stood there, completely frozen........and all I could do was yell out, "Oh dear God, no....no, no, no"......it was all just unbelievable......I started crying.....the tears would not stop......I kept thinking....why in our great country........why oh why oh why? My entire body was shaking.....I couldn't stop......the tears....they wouldn't stop.......I was an emotional mess........how could I even think of going to my classes? Yet, I knew I just HAD to........stood there a few minutes, just watching the t.v........finally composed myself and got ready to leave......the college is about a 10 minute drive from home.....when I was driving, I turned on the radio........that's all there was on the radio........people screaming and yelling about how "all hell had broken lose."
I was able to concentrate on my driving and made it to school safely......everybody there, students and instructors alike, were in total shock.....it was as if we were all walking around like zombies......unreal.......just totally unreal.......even in my classes, students were in their seats, just crying.....one young man screamed at the instructor for not having a t.v. on......I remember his screaming, "don't you care, don't you care at all about what's happening?" It was just awful......I felt so sorry for the instructor.....he apologized and said it was all out of his hands.
It was absolutely the nightmare from Hell......we all felt like we'd gone to Hell and back......such intense emotions......such horror.....we were all horrified beyond words....it was totally incomprehensible.

There's a whole lot that I remember about that time--and not just the moment that this happened, but, also things that had happened before and things that would follow. I've written bits and pieces of this story here and there, but I need to put it all together. It's hard to believe that, this September, it will have been twelve years since this took place.

I think one of my school classmates, Sandy, was in that area when it happened. I did write a poem about it back then too, though not about her in particular. I think mine was called 'For All Mankind' but it had another title too. It is an event that also led to almost a whole new industry of documentary film-makers, as well as alternative radio. There are a lot of people who made money from what happened and that is where the investigations need to go. Clearly the government and global banking establishment have too much power and it is bound to be abused, as well as us! I was late for work at the local newspaper. I saw the first plane hit the tower, then raced to work knowing that was big national news. As I turned on the TV in the newsroom, the 2nd plane hit.

I was doing homework (for the 2nd time I went to school), and my boyfriend kept trying to distract me. Then, when that came on TV, he said no really you better come look at this. I was glued to it after that. Could not believe it! Americans haven't really seen the effects of attacks on their own soil that many times.

My son was suppose to have his birthday party that evening....the bakery didn't even make his cake....and everyone cancelled. It was horrible for a 3rd grader that had no idea what was going on and why he lost out on his birthday.

I was at home. We had moved in a few months earlier and Trev was in Kindergarten for only a week or so. He was so young and I didn't know if I should even mention it to him. I decided not to. I turned on Good Morning America, I was watching it when they broke to the World Trade Center and I could not believe what I was watching. I thought of a friend I had who worked temp jobs in those buildings. I hoped he wasn't working that day, he wasn't thankfully.

I was online chatting with a friend and he saw it on tv and told me.

The title to this did catch me for sure Marty.

I was at work wondering why it was so quiet in the facility ~ a huge place, and I could hear a pin drop, which was not normal. Then I went looking for everybody, and they were all gathered around the large screen TV we had just purchased staring in awe. I'll never forget it.
